How assumptions are made

Sometimes the researchers have had to make assumptions about kin relationships and names and ownership for which they have no clear evidence. These assumptions are labelled in the site. In order to make an assumption  two or more of the following criteria must be demonstrated.

  1. Common distinctive name (including Soundex variations).
  2. Similar testimony.
  3. Proximity in the ship (s).
  4. Proximity in Musters.
  5. Proximity in the tithable lists
  6. Proximity in ownership.
  7. Kin relationship between owners.
  8. Shared group membership
  9. Shared indenture or employment.
  10. Common owner.
  11. Appropriate ages.
